MiMo's Neighborhood Eats - Closed

Update 11/24/13: Mimo's and it's updated version appears to have closed.

Original post: 8/3/12

MiMo's is a great addition to the midtown Mobile restaurant scene.  It definitely impressed me on my first visit. I heard about MiMo's from a fellow foodie and decided to try it out on a Friday.  It took me going up and down the street a few times to find it.  Located on Airport Blvd, the building is recessed from the street so it was a little hard to find.  If you're looking for MiMo's turn into the Antique at the Loop parking lot.  MiMo's is right beside that building.

Filthy Fries $5.99
If you've read this blog before, you may know I can't resist appetizers.  There's just something about it that rev up my appetite for the main course.  Add to that my favorite type, chili cheese fries, and I just can't resist.  MiMo's call their chili cheese fries - "filthy fries."  It doesn't sound too appetizing but it's really quiet delicious.  The base of  is thick cut steak fries and then ladled on top is this super thick chili and then cheese.  The chili is so hearty I thought it pulled pork.  It does have a rather strong tomato base though so if that's not your cuppa, avoid this appetizer.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did my two lunch companions.

Cajun Shrimp and Sausage Pasta
I had the Cajun Shrimp and Sausage pasta for $11.99.  MiMo's starts with corkscrew pasta and then adds huge shrimp, concecuh sausage and then shaved Parmesan cheese on top.  The pasta is served with two slices of garlic bread.  This was like mac-n-cheese on crack.  It's super rich and creamy.  The shrimp is cooked so there is still a nice crunch when you bite into it.  The concecuh gives the entire dish a slight smoky flavor.  I thought for sure I would still be hungry since it didn't look all that big, but I was more than satisfied once I was done with the meal.

Brisket Sliders

My brother decided to go for one of the lunch specials; the brisket sliders.  For $7.50, you get three smoked brisket sliders with beer braised cabbage, topped with house-blended spicy mustard and sliced pickles.  It is also served with your choice of steak fries, sweet potato fries or MiMo's chips.  I snatched a slider from my brother to have a taste.  I thought there was a little too much mustard but otherwise good.  I liked the beer braised cabbage a lot.  It was tasty. Be sure to order the sweet potato fries.  It's crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside.  These fries weren't cut too thick either.  The steak fries were a little too big for me.

MiMo's burger
My friend had the MiMo's burger.  It's just your basic burger and she liked it just fine.

MiMo's is really hopping at lunch time.  I would hazard to guess the restaurant was nearly at capacity when I stopped by for lunch.  Service, however, was NOT lacking.  My waitress was nice and friendly as well as efficient.  She had nearly all of the tables towards the back end of the restaurant and looked like she kept up with drinks very well.  The food did take a little more time to be served but I kind of expected that after seeing how packed it was.  There are a couple of other items on the menu I'm dying to try out like Mediterranean Seafood Melt.  If you would like to check it MiMo's menu, click here.
